Following two years of negotiations and planning, the Government oaf Antigua & Barbuda and Iconic World Powerboat haver reached the agreement to host the first international power boat regatta ICONIC World Powerboat Race in Antigua in March 2018.
The Antigua & Barbuda Minister of Tourism Asot Michael said: “This iconic powerboat race is the latest and most exciting addition to our yachting calendar… The international exposure that we will receive from hosting the first of its kind in the region of professional powerboat racing, is in direct alignment of the country’s vision to make Antigua and Barbuda a household name in the international yachting and marine circuit.”
The organizers intend to bring at least 150 boats to the island for a 10-day festival of powerboat racing.
IWP CEO Richard Teideman said that Antigua’s two major marinas in Jolly Beach and English Harbour make it possible for the regatta to encompass every possible type of boat from jet skis and single seater Formula 2 boats to massive 200mph offshore boats.
Chief Operating Officer Eugene Bari said: “Iconic World Powerboat is designed to be the Olympics of powerboat racing. We have seen how hard the individual promoters and racers work to make the sport exciting and by combining the efforts of the global powerboat racing community we think our vision is something that will appeal to everyone.”
We at CI are excited to witness the birth of the new legendary regatta in Antigua, which will be a great addition to annual RORC Caribbean, Antigua Sailing Week and Antigua Classic Regatta!
