Last year there was a 28% increase from 2015 in the emigration of millionaires. Approximately 82,000 millionaires emigrated from their home countries, in comparison to the 64,000 who emigrated in 2015.
This increase in wealthy migrants is definitely a contributing factor to the increased demand for global citizenship solutions such as second citizenship in the Caribbean.
Australia, the US, Canada, UAE and New Zealand were the top five countries that received wealthy emigrates in 2016, with Australia at the head of the pack with 12,000 high net worth individuals. France, China, India, Brazil and Turkey saw the most wealthy migrants leave, in that respective order.
The report also states that there were 13.6 million high net worth individuals at the end of 2016 with a combined wealth of US$69 trillion.
