BRIAN DOBBIN, FOUNDER
We wrote a couple of months ago about the appeal of Canada as a destination for one’s family and wealth, but getting into the country is not cut and dried. In the last decade Canada has targeted to take in over 300,000 new immigrants per year, but has reached that goal only once in that time while consistently averaging in the low 200’s.
The large majority of these immigrants come to the country through the Express Entry System, as refugees, or as sponsored immigrants from Canadian nationals in family re-unification. For those not fitting the refugee designation nor having a family sponsor, the Express Entry System is a points-based qualification that heavily favors young and well-educated applicants whom are proficient in English.
Scoring high in points does not make for a quick and easy access however, as getting through the line-up of applicants usually takes years. In the late 1980’s the first Canadian immigrant investor programs were started, allowing older successful business people or professionals to make an approved investment in return for fast-track immigration to Canada.
In 2014 the Canadian government ended the federal immigrant investor program, and in the process returned over fifty thousand outstanding applications and investments to individuals around the world whom were still in process – some for years. The remaining such program was the Quebec Immigrant Investment program, but this too was suspended late last year and this week we’ve learned the program will not re-open until at least Q2 2021.
Never in this industry have we seen such a rise in demand for something whilst the supply of it disappears. There are a number of small provincial programs that have investment angles, but these are far and few between and need to fit specific applicants. We are working now on something new for our international networks that will be able to support some volume of immigrant investors to Canada, but in the meantime, we have our eyes and ears open for special opportunities.
Introducing Basecamp Collective
We’ve found a very singular and unique investment pathway for the right person under the ‘Entrepreneur Stream’ of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This is an immigration investment pathway in which an active investment can qualify for nomination by the Ontario provincial government for expedited Canadian permanent residency.
The investment is called ‘Basecamp Collective’ and it is one of the most exciting start-up ideas we’ve ever come across. It is a disrupter model for the resort and adventure tourism business, and its product is luxury accommodations in untouched nature for mid-market cost.
It does this with portable luxury bedroom ‘pods’ in beautiful and stunning locations that have all their amenities self-contained. The business platform avoids expensive infrastructure and capital land costs and takes advantage of the quickly expanding market for more natural experiences, along with a lucrative e-platform for selling to it.
The concept and plan have been created by two brothers in Toronto whom have some incredible skills and experience in land planning, design, development, and marketing. What they require is a partner with skill in finance and with seed capital.
This opportunity will qualify under the Entrepreneur Stream of the OINP and we have married the investment package together with top legal immigration representation in Toronto for a total cost of $600,000 CDN. The funds will be an loan to the company for equity ownership and first security over all assets, and we believe the business will be a quick success hitting the market at a perfect time – with enormous upside.
For more information on the opportunity, please see the deal teaser and we’ll be glad to answer all immigration questions and introduce the Barrett brothers – we’re pretty sure you’re going to like them.
