The 2026 CBI Index has been released, offering its latest assessment of citizenship by investment programmes around the world. Now in its tenth edition, the annual Index evaluates 14 programmes across nine pillars, including Standard of Living, Freedom of Movement, Investment Options, Due Diligence, Family and Ease of Processing.
This year’s results reinforce the continued strength of the Caribbean, with all five Caribbean citizenship by investment programmes occupying the top five positions globally. For Antigua and Barbuda in particular, the results highlight several of the qualities that make the country an attractive option for individuals and families looking beyond citizenship alone.
Antigua and Barbuda Receives a Perfect Score for Families
One of Antigua and Barbuda’s strongest results in the 2026 Index is its 10 out of 10 score for Family, the highest possible rating.
Antigua and Barbuda shares the top position with Grenada and Nauru, with the Index recognizing the programme’s ability to accommodate a broad range of qualifying dependants.
The Family pillar considers much more than the inclusion of a spouse and minor children. It assesses provisions for adult children, parents, grandparents, siblings and qualifying family members of a spouse, as well as the flexibility available for different dependency arrangements.
For investors considering citizenship as part of a broader plan for their family’s future, this flexibility can be particularly important. Rather than viewing a second citizenship solely as an individual benefit, Antigua and Barbuda’s programme provides opportunities for qualifying families to plan together.
Among the Caribbean’s Highest Scores for Standard of Living
Antigua and Barbuda also received 7 out of 10 for Standard of Living, tying for the highest score among Caribbean CBI jurisdictions alongside Dominica and Grenada.
The Index evaluates factors including income, economic growth, human security, personal freedom, expected years of schooling and life expectancy when determining its Standard of Living scores.
This is particularly relevant as the reasons for pursuing alternative citizenship continue to evolve. For many investors, the appeal is no longer simply greater global mobility. Quality of life, geographical diversification and the possibility of spending meaningful time in the country are increasingly part of the decision.
In Antigua and Barbuda, that means citizenship in a country that can also become a genuine second home, whether for part of the year, for future relocation or as a place for families to establish longer-term roots.
A Leader for Investment Options
Antigua and Barbuda achieved another standout result in the Investment Options and Threshold category, scoring 9 out of 10, the joint-highest score in the entire 2026 Index and the joint-highest among Caribbean programmes.
The country currently provides several qualifying investment routes, including the National Development Fund, approved real estate, the University of the West Indies Fund for qualifying larger families, and approved business investment.
For those seeking to combine citizenship with a tangible long-term investment, the approved real estate route can be particularly compelling. It provides an opportunity to invest in property while establishing a more meaningful connection to Antigua and Barbuda.
At Citizens International, we believe this is increasingly important. Citizenship can provide greater mobility, security and flexibility, but property can represent the longer-term commitment: somewhere to spend time, build memories and create lasting value for future generations.
How Antigua and Barbuda Scored in 2026
Overall, Antigua and Barbuda received 65 out of a possible 90 points, placing fifth in the 2026 CBI Index and keeping it among the five leading Caribbean programmes globally.
Its scores across the nine pillars were:
- Family: 10/10
- Investment Options and Threshold: 9/10
- Ease of Processing: 8/10
- Due Diligence: 8/10
- Standard of Living: 7/10
- Freedom of Movement: 7/10
- Certainty of Product: 7/10
- Mandatory Travel or Residence: 6/10
- Citizenship Timeline: 3/10
While Antigua and Barbuda received a lower score for Citizenship Timeline, it continues to score strongly for Ease of Processing. The distinction is important: the Index assesses the timeline based on how quickly citizenship can be obtained, while Ease of Processing considers factors related to the overall administrative requirements of an application.
The Caribbean Continues to Lead Citizenship by Investment
The wider results of the 2026 Index tell an equally important story.
St. Kitts and Nevis ranked first overall with 78 points, followed by Dominica with 75, Grenada with 72, Saint Lucia with 71 and Antigua and Barbuda with 65. This means the Caribbean’s five established CBI jurisdictions occupy all five of the Index’s leading positions.
At the same time, the industry is changing. The 2026 report points to increasing regional coordination, stronger regulatory oversight and growing expectations around establishing a genuine connection between applicants and their new country of citizenship.
As requirements across the industry become more aligned, the differences between programmes may increasingly come down to what a country can offer beyond citizenship itself.
For Antigua and Barbuda, the 2026 results make that wider proposition clear: strong family provisions, flexible investment opportunities and one of the Caribbean CBI region’s highest scores for standard of living.
Looking Beyond the Passport
Choosing a citizenship by investment programme is a highly personal decision. Mobility remains important, but so do family considerations, investment opportunities, quality of life and the country itself.
For those considering Antigua and Barbuda, citizenship can form part of a much broader plan: investing in property, spending more time in the Caribbean and establishing a genuine connection to a country that offers much more than a second passport.
