Malta Visa-free Travel Destinations in the Schengen Area

Malta joined the Schengen Area in 2007 after signing the Schengen agreement which removed all the internal borders between the member states.

Till date, there are 26 countries (including Malta) which form part of the Schengen area and grants the right to freedom of travel without internal border checks.

Malta Passport and Visa Requirements

One requires a Schengen visa to travel to Malta. All the applications for the Schengen visa must be filed at the diplomatic mission of the main destination country of the visit.

In the case when the applicant intends on visiting several Schengen countries, the application for it must be filed at the diplomatic mission of the country of first entry into Schengen.

Thus, applicants who wish to visit Malta as the main destination, or being the country of first entry into the Schengen area, must file their applications at Malta’s diplomatic missions or its representations*

• One (1) passport-size photograph, in colour and taken against a white background, with the face clearly visible;
• A valid travel document (passport) validity of which must not be less than three (3) months;
• Visa processing fee;
• Valid travel insurance covering all the travellers; and
• Confirmed return flight tickets (not required in some cases).
